When should the tape or the outer bag removed during the mycelium cultivation?
No matter you use glue tape or outer bag for sealing, it must be removed when the mycelium grows to a certain extent, otherwise the mycelium will lack oxygen thus affecting growth.
So when is the best time to remove glue tape or outer bag in a constant temperature cultivation room?
------Generally, it is when the mycelium from 4 inoculation holes connects together and has grown to 1/3 to half of the shiitake log. Usually it takes around 25 days.
On one hand, the mycelium does not lack oxygen in the early stage.
On the other hand, the air circulation in the constant-temperature culture room is relatively strong. If the tape is torn off or the outer bag is removed in advance, the mycelium around the spawn blocks or inoculation holes will easily dry out, affecting the formation of tubercles later, which will eventually lead to poor color transformation on the side of the inoculation holes and thus affect the subsequent fruiting.
P.S.: For shiitake log over-summering, water should be sprayed to cool them down, and the inoculation holes should face downward.
