After 5 to 10 days of sowing shiitake mushroom spores, when the mycelium has spread across the bed surface and white mycelial bloom appears, the nutrient bags can be placed. The timing of placing the nutrient bags should be earlier rather than later, following these two principles:
Principle 1: Place the nutrient bags when the soil surface is mostly covered with light gray mycelium (which needs to be observed close to the soil surface) or mycelial bloom. It is better to do so earlier than later.
Principle 2: If the surface temperature inside the greenhouse is higher than 16°C, the placement of the nutrient bags should be delayed, as the risk of contamination from high temperatures is more severe than the consequences of mycelium aging.
The number of nutrient bags for Morchella varies greatly depending on the regional climate, cultivation mode and habits of cultivation. The amount used in the south (especially in the southwest) is 1000~1500 kg/mu, the amount of nutrient bags is 0.4~0.5 kg/bag, and the number is 2000~3000 bags/mu: the amount used in the north is generally 1500~2500 kg/mu, or even higher, the amount of nutrient bags is 0.75~1 kg/bag, and the number is also 2000~3000 bags/mu. From the final yield, the yield in areas with a small number of nutrient bags is generally 200~400 kg/mu, while the yield in the north can reach 400~1000 kg/mu.
