What are the key conditions for the growth environment of white jade mushroom?
- Temperature: Mycelium grows within a range of 5-30°C, with an optimal temperature of 20-25°C. The optimal temperature for primordia formation is 12-20°C, while the optimal temperature for fruiting body growth and development is 15-16°C.
- Light: During the mycelium growth phase, dark conditions should be maintained to prevent premature primordia formation caused by light. During the primordia initiation phase, weak light is needed to stimulate growth, and during the fruiting body growth phase, some scattered light is also required.
- Humidity: The water content of the substrate should be controlled at 62%-65%. If it’s too high, water will accumulate at the bottom of the cultivation bag, slowing mycelium maturation. During the cultivation phase, air humidity should be kept at 65%-75%. High humidity increases the risk of contamination. During the primordia initiation phase, humidity should be maintained at 95%-98%, and it should be lowered in the later stages of fruiting body growth.
- Air: White shimeji mushrooms are aerobic, requiring sufficient oxygen for mycelium cultivation. Poor ventilation and oxygen deficiency will harm mycelium vitality and prolong maturation. In bag cultivation, high CO2 concentrations are used in the later stages to suppress cap growth and promote stem elongation.
- pH: White shimeji mushrooms prefer to grow on a slightly acidic substrate. After sterilization, the pH of the substrate should be controlled within the range of 6.2-6.5 to promote mycelium growth. A pH that is too low after sterilization will slow maturation and, if excessively low, affect the yield of the fruiting bodies.
