Cultivation Period
Black fungus substrate sticks have a cultivation cycle of 45–50 days.
Colonization Phase (Day 1–7):
Mycelium recovers and spreads from inoculation wounds. No ventilation for the first 3 days; from Day 4 to 7, ventilate twice daily for 10–15 minutes. Keep room temperature at 28°C to promote rapid colonization.
Heating Phase (After Day 8):
Mycelium begins generating heat as it colonizes. Maintain room temperature at 24–25°C in complete darkness. Keep humidity below 75% and CO₂ levels below 0.22%.
Post-Ripening Phase (After ~Day 30):
Once the mycelium fully colonizes the bag, lower the temperature to 20–22°C, still in the dark, with humidity below 75% and CO₂ around 0.22%. Since black fungus mycelium is sensitive to light and temperature changes, use red light when entering the room to avoid premature primordia formation.
Storage of Cultivation Sticks
Once the black fungus cultivation sticks reach physiological maturity but it is not yet time for fruiting management, they can be stored temporarily. The recommended storage temperature is around 15°C, and the storage period should not exceed two months. During this time, CO₂ concentration should be kept below 0.3%, and air circulation is essential to prevent oxygen deficiency. As the sticks become sensitive to light at this stage, they should be stored in complete darkness.
